Ghana’s sensational afro-pop singer Rebecca Acheampong, aka Becca, at
the weekend demonstrated her musical prowess during this year’s edition
of Lagos Jazz Series held in Federal Palace Hotel in Ekoyi in Lagos and
Mouri-Okunne Park in Victoria Island, both in Nigeria.
The Lagos Jazz Series which is one of the biggest jazz music festivals
in Nigeria is organized annually by the Lagos Jazz Series Group founded
by Oti Bazunu in 2010.
At two events, Becca, who was rated as one of the best performers treated music fans to an unforgettable performance.
Becca, who delighted music fans with her stagecraft, performed most of
her popular songs, including ‘African Woman’, ‘Daa Ke Daa’, ‘You Lied To
Me’ and ‘No Away’ in which she featured Nigerian hip hop star M.I. It
was an entertaining event, as the prolific Ghanaian afro pop star
treated the excited fans to some serious dance moves on stage.
Her performance then took an incredible turn when Nigerian rapper M.I,
in a surprise appearance, joined her to perform their timeless love
song, ‘No Away.’
The award-winning afro pop singer then gave her fans a feel of her
Ghanaian heritage as she introduced them to the history and splendour of
the Adowa dance, exiting to a standing ovation. At two events, Becca
performed alongside other celebrated music icons such as Grammy Award
winner Roy Hargrove, Fourplay, Omawunmi, 9ice and Waje.
She won the hearts of the entire music fans with her exquisite
stagecraft and singing ability, to the extent that some were not happy
when her time was up. She was indeed one of the best acts that night.
For more than 20 years of dedicated life of inspiring gospel music
lovers in Ghana and across the world, the sensational group Daughters of
Glorious Jesus, have bounced back with a new concept to draw souls
closer to God.
With ten albums and over 100 songs to their credit, the management of
Daughters of Glorious Jesus on Tuesday launched “Back2Back 2013” aims at
creating a platform for gospel music fans to enjoy thrilling
soul-touching performances from the three sisters and many popular
gospel artistes.
“The Back2Back concept, which we started from the beginning of this
year with our first show on Sunday January 1st, has come to stay. Today
we are launching the Back2Back 2013, which will be staged live on
January 6, 2013,” Mr. Theophilus Yartey, a management member of the
group told the media at the launch.
Beginning their individual music careers in the early 1980s, Mr. Yartey
said, they became Daughters of Glorious Jesus in 1989, when one
Reverend Akwasi Asare, saw the great talent and potential in them and
gave them all the needed support.
Through the exceptional support of the Rev Asare, Daughters of Jesus
recorded their first album in Europe in 1990. “Daughters of Glorious
Jesus have sung in every major church programme and major churches in
Ghana you can think of. We are proud and happy how God has used them to
touch lives not only in Ghana but across the world,” Mr. Yartey said.
Launching the Back2Back concert, Mr. Samuel Attah-Mensah, Managing
Director of Citi FM, a private local FM station, also traced the
beginning of the gospel hit makers and urged them to tell their success
story of staying together all these years by publishing a book.
Other gospel popular artistes on the bill for the Back2Back concert are
Pastor Joe Beechem, Helen Yawson, the Tagoe Sisters and latest hit
maker, Cwesi Oteng.
The concert, which will be staged a day before the swearing-in of
Ghana’s next President on the January 7th, promises to thrill thousands
of fans, including political party leaders and supporters.
The three daughters, Cynthia, Edna and Monica, who have promised to
rock the Accra International Conference Centre once again, hinted at the
launch that they would come out with another album next year.
Sierra Leonean’s representative at the recently held Big Brother Africa
Stargame, Zainab O. Sheriff, has revealed that Ghanaian comedian
Derrick Kobina Boney (DKB) is a professional slapper.
DKB was on Monday, June 4, 2012 disqualified from the reality show for
slapping Zainab who peeped at him while he was taking a shower.
Speaking exclusively on Showbiz Today with Bola Ray on Hitz Fm, Zainab
noted that if she had not taken part in this year’s Big Brother reality
show and received that slap, she would not have been this famous.
She said, “I am the girl with the most famous slap in Africa, I tell
you that slap was not easy ooo. I tell you one thing for sure, DKB can
slap. DKB is a professional slapper.”
She also said if she had seen that slap coming, she would have run for
her life. Zainab, who is also a model, however admitted that she had a
big mouth and most contestants knew about it when they were in the Big
Brother house but she said the slap was unexpected.
She revealed that DKB did not know that something like that could happen to them in the cause of their stay in the house.
Zainab disclosed that they had both gotten over it and were now good
friends. “Well we are over it because I look at things in the positive
side. I don’t dwell on negativity, DKB is sorry, I have forgiven him. I
have moved on, I hope he has.”
Zainab also disclosed exclusively on the show that she was planning to change her nationality and become a Ghanaian.
She said, “Have you been to my country? I don’t like it at all, so when
I arrived in Ghana, I just said to myself, I’m gonna change my
nationality. I am going to be a Ghanaian and the most thing I like about
Ghana is that, Former President Jerry John Rawlings is from Ghana.”
Zainab was in Ghana over the weekend to party with her Ghanaian
housemates DKB, Keitta and Eazzy and she also used the opportunity to be
part of the 4Syte Music Video Awards.
The model is currently based in Istanbul, Turkey and has done extensive
runway shows for several magazines including Elle magazine, Marie
Claire and Vogue.
Allo TiGO TV host and pop musician, Jon Germain has been voted the most
fashionable man of the year, beating off the stiff competition.
He beat off a host of KOD, Joselyn Dumas, Eazzy, Chris Attoh, Yvonne
Nelson and Inna Patty to claim the accolade for 'Fashion Icon of the
Year'.
An attendant at the show said: 'Undoubtedly Jon Germain is one of the most stylish men to grace Ghana”.
The 2nd Ghana Fashion Awards had performances from AJ Nelson and
veteran US based Nii Obi Addo whiles eleven awards were given out to the
deserving winners.
Jon Germain is currently wrapping up his 2nd album which will be released soon worldwide.
The 31-year-old who hanged up his international boots after the 2010
World Cup will receive the flagship award at a planned ceremony at the
State Banquet Hall on December 24. It is during the grand event that the
former Black Stars captain will receive cash prize of 20,000 Ghana
cedis, a one-year office paid sponsorship for his foundation, an
honorary plaque and an all paid weekend get away with his wife.
The flagship award is determined by a confidential committee (the
college) for any individual within the entertainment circles for at
least five years. Chief Executive of the awards organizers Emklan Group,
Stacy Amoateng explained the choice of Stephen Appiah for the award at a
press lunch on Friday indicating that the selection committee did a
very good job in selecting Stephen Appiah due to his rich football
record and his philanthropical nature towards depressed people.
The award scheme which was constituted in 2011 is aimed at recognizing
the immense contributions of Ghanaian celebrities towards society, thus,
aside from leading the Ghana national team to two consecutive World Cup
finals, Appiah is also noted for his generosity. His foundation StepApp
has brought several reliefs to deprived communities in Ghana.

Hiplife musician gone gospel, Lord Kenya, says he is happy for fellow
musician, Ofori Amponsah for turning a new leaf and joining the gospel
train.
According to Evangelist Lord Kenya, no one should regret that Ofori
Amponsah is now preaching the Word of God instead of singing secular
songs.
“I don’t understand why anyone should berate him”, he said. “Ofori
Amponsah is born again and Ghanaians should just understand that. God
has time for everyone and if God has called him to do his work, we
should rather rally behind him and not criticize him”.
Evang. Lord Kenya described Prophet Ofori Amponsah as a great testimony
to have left his worldly life since he claimed it wasn’t easy for him
leaving his past.
“I had to wake up early in the morning everyday to look for ‘wee’ to
smoke which nearly destroyed my life but if by His grace, I’ve been
saved from the hands of the devil, I should be happy for my brother as
well.”
Lord Kenya (real name Abraham Philip Akpor) told Showbiz that people
who knew him doubted him at first when they heard that he was born again
but as time went on; they realized that he had actually been called by
God.
Lord Kenya, however, revealed that he was not happy with radio
presenters who expect him to paymoney to them before his gospel songs
are played.
According to him, radio presenters should gladly play his gospel song
as they did when he was doing secular music than asking for ‘Payola’.
“Radio presenters were chasing after my songs when I was doing secular
music, but if today I am born again and now doing gospel song; I don’t
understand why they should refuse to play my songs without asking for
money”.
He said it was his wish that those who don’t know Christ would get to know his music and repent through his songs.
He said two songs from his current album, “Christ’s Life”, talks about how God changed him from a sinner to a born again.

After
the 4th Syte Music Video Awards, controversial musician, Wanlov came
out publicly to vent his spleen on the organisers of the annual awards.
Ever since the awards, I have been asking myself: What makes any
video popular if not how many views the video gets on YouTube? I was one
of the few people who shared Wanlov’s stand before he even came out
strongly to register his displeasure on his sister’s behalf.
What was Wanlov’s problem with the organisers?
This is it and as simple as this. According to him even though
Deborah Vanessa (his biological sister) released his ‘Uncle Obama’ music
video on the same day EL released his ‘Kaalu’ video, she failed to get
nominations in the award whiles the latter picked the Most Popular Music
Video.
At the time of his rant, as many as 636,151 views have been recorded
for the ‘Uncle Obama’ video as against 82,283 views for EL’s ‘Kaalu’
video. Even D-Black’s ‘Vera’ which was in the same category with EL has
about 377,465.
By the above views, clearly EL’s ‘Kaalu’ video has no business being
adjudged as the Most Popular Video in Ghana for 2012 unless the
organisers had different criteria than the ‘mere’ views on YouTube.
You do not need to have a good or popular song to win a video
award. The two songs don’t send any tangible or important message to the
patrons out as they are just ordinary songs with meaningless lyrics.
There is honesty in Wanlov’s rants for the simple reason is that,
when ‘Uncle Obama’ video was released, it went viral on the internet to
the extent of many accusing the singer of being paid to compose the song
for President Obama.
The popularity of the video offered her the opportunity to be interviewed and featured on CNN.
I would probably be living on another planet if I fail to notice the substance and relevance of the YouTube video channel.
If YouTube views of videos are not important when awarding most
popular music videos, then what do we base our criteria on? You can not
tell me the organizers used the number of times a video was aired on
TV-since the more you pay, the more air time you can buy for your video.
Should YouTube views be used to determine how popular a video is? If
NO, how can the popularity of videos be determined in Ghana for
‘popular’ music video awards?
Nana Kwesi is the 12th Born of 13 Children of the late Nana Okai

classic music every morning.Nana took very much of that part of his

Marley,Slim Young,Daddy Lumba,Kojo Antwi,Reggie Rockstone,Obrafour,and

Nana Kwesi was the type u ld always catch miming songs from any of
the aforementioned names when their songs were playing.He also loved
songs from Nas,Tupac,Big Daddy Kane and Notorious BIG.But he would have
to steal himself to listen to those by then..and of course mime along
side...he also always tried to compose his own as at the tender age of
12 yrs..
His childhood best friend was Slim Young's 2nd born "Nana Yaw". also
known as Vicious from T.T.L. (Teachers of the Law).Slim Young would
always send Nana Yaw musical instruments from abroad.Nana Kwesi as a
dear friend of his son always took much advantage of the opportunity to
learn how to deal with these instruments one by one.
In Junior High,he had already started performing on stages.Talking
about academics,if he was not the best in class,he would always be
amongst the best in any class he sat in and no wonder he gained
admission to one of Ghana's most renowned all boys school "St Peters
Sec. Sch." where he read "Pure Science".
In High School,he really then discovered himself as a true lyricist
and found his true use by his maker...he was always dynamic on the
stage..on the mic he was just the voice to listen to..The love for his
music was so much to the point that a junior could call for a
slap/punishment from any senior if he interrupted his performance in any
way...nobody wanted to miss any thing he said...and no doubt won st.
peters best lyricist of all time..and got the title "Sean Don" as a
prefix before his new name "Bylon" in high school..
In one personal interaction with him,I asked him why he does the
songs he does,he explained in his own words as i quote "I stand and
preach against the hate,greed in the world..and as long as i have the
breathe of life in me,I would make songs to give mankind hope for
2morrow..make the sick and frustrated find reason to smile...make the
old feel young again..and bring the world together through music..I pray
it continues even better after am gone.the Bible says "Music is the
food of the soul"..and I believe after 3 minutes of listening to any
record,your soul should be well fed".
In High School..it was common to find almost every student gathered
in front of "Porress Seven(7)" his dormitory.. why? because then "Sean
Don Bylon" was drumming on top of chop boxes/trunks with his bare hands
and singing and raping along side..And when he was to perform of
stage,that was the performance no one on St Peter's campus would want to
miss for nothing/anything.
After school,he went to record at "THE LAST TWO MUSIC GROUP"..then in
the course of his recording Hammer found talent in him.He was also by
then recording his compilation titled "THE LOST FILES"..and asked him to
be a part of it and in return record his whole album with him as he did
with Obrafour,Tinny and the likes...he was in the camp then wth now
artistes like Kwaw,Edem,Dompe,Okra and the likes..his songs on that
compilation were "NAANO" with "DOMPE" and "CRYING" with OKRA...He never
performed any of these songs anywhere even though they shook the
airwaves for sometime and can even be remembered even now...
After the Compilation,for reasons known to him alone,he relinquished from HUSH HUSH studios...
He then concentrated on his Education for sometime..at Zenith College
University where he switched to study Business Administration for
reasons known to him only...he later deferred the course to establish
his now "DE DRAFT UNISEX SALON,TATTOOING AND PIERCING PALACE"....in

After some time in Business..he chose to chase his God given career
again..went to Jay So of Skillions Music Group..by then he had changed
his showbiz name from "BYLON" to "NANA KWESI" a.k.a. 99k..which is his

Edem is a Ghanaian rapper/hiplife artist. He raps in Ewe and is the premier rapper in that language.
He first featured in Hammer's compilation called 'Crusade of the Lost Files'.
His debut album, ‘Volta Regime’, was released in late 2008. The
13-track album with an introduction on the origin of the Ewes and skits

Denning Edem Agbeviadey (born in the late part of the mid
4/11/1980)so he took liggie (dj 3peat)as one birthday sound boys in
2010. A Ghanaian recording artist and entertainer who performs under the
name Ayigbe Edem or Edem for short. Edem is his middle name and Ayigbe
is a local Akan word with reference to the Ewe ethnic group that occupies most part of the Volta Region of Ghana.

popularly known as Stonebwoy has indicated that there is no way he can
be better than Samini, from whose camp he will be releasing his debut
album.
In an exclusive interview on Hitz FM's morning show,
Daybreak Hitz with Lexis Bill, Stonebwoy stated that outshining the man
who has taught him 'the rudiments of the music industry' will be a
daunting task.
When Stonebwoy, who was discovered by Samini, was
asked his competition in his genre of music, he mentioned Samini but
emphasised that there is no way he can be better than Samini since he is
his boss.
"It's only after graduating and finding my feet in the
industry that would give me the chance to compete but until then, I am
where I need to be" Stonebwoy said.
He, however, hinted that there might be a possible move from Samini music sooner or later.
News
circulated a couple of months ago about a rift between the young
dance-hall artiste and his mentor which was fuelled by the delay in the
release of his debut album.
He refuted all allegations and
affirmed that he is working hand in hand with Samini Music, who are
involved in the launch of the album this weekend.
Stonebwoy
indicated that his album was ready three years ago and blamed the delay
in releasing it on managerial challenges. "I think God's time is the
best and this is the best time for me to release the album so I'm ready
now".
Stonebwoy will thus launch his debut album on Saturday, 3rd March at the Silverbird Stores.
The
event which is strictly by invitation would be followed by a rave for
his fans and the general public on an unannounced date.
According
to Stonebwoy, the album has had to go through a lot of refining because
of the commercial success he wanted his music to achieve.
He believes good rhythms and melodies coupled with a unique style are enough to satisfy those who choose to listen to his music.

Kwaw Kese
Emmanuel Botchwey aka Kwaw Kesse was born in Agona Swedru and started
singing in school, where he sang and rapped every now and then to beats
provided by his friends thumping on table. He had his J.S.S education at
Happy Home J.S.S and then went on for his Secondary education at
Winneba Secondary School.
His major break came when he was featured
on Obrafour's Executioner's Diary with his 'Oye Nonsense' track. He
continued with winning ways by featuring again on Hammer's 'Sounds of
Our Time' compilation. This time around, it was 'Ma Tewo Kwakwa'. This
track made such an impact on the album that it became the favourite of
most music lovers. This prepared the way for his debut album, ‘Na Ya
Tal’ which was a big hit.
In 2007, he released, another album,
'Abodam 2007' his biggest hit yet. He scored a big hit with the songs,
'Odeim', ' Na Ya Tal remix' and 'Wose Mmaa Pe Wo'. The success of the
album and his amazing performances through out the year earned him 5
Ghana Music Awards in 2008, including Artist of the Year. He has

The African dancehall artiste Samini is currently preparing to shoot
his next video – ‘Girls Everywhere’ admitted that being a public
figure is too much pressure.
The dancehall super Star explained his
reason as "sometimes fans don’t understand that as celebrities we have
our serious moods, thinking moods and business moods. For a fan, every
day is a business mood hence he / she always want to see you in the mood
that they know".
Samini gave an example as, the fact that I am always on stage or TV
smiling and making you happy (because that is what I do) does not mean
that is the way I leave my life every day, he said: "fans always want
you to respond to them even at the times whereby you not aware they are
churning your name".
He used funny face as an illustration "because funny face is always
shooting chorkor trotro and passing comic words, if a fan should see him
in traffic, trying to either beat that traffic or get to his
destination on time, a fan might think he is shooting chorkor trotro
hence will scream his popular saying so loud. If funny face assuming did
not hear hence could not respond, that fan will take it so personal and
might either spread that news."
These are some of the things that make celebrity status very
difficult because as celebrities, we have no excuse in the face of our fans
not to show love whenever they need it. He said this to the Miss Malaika
final 10 delegates at the la Palm royal hotel when he shared some
advises with them as they walk into stardom.
